5 benefits of using a water filter in your bathroom

When we discuss water filtration and softening systems, a lot of the focus tends to be on the benefits of filtered water on your plumbing, appliances and drinking water. Very little focus, however, is given to the benefits a water filter can have on your skin.
Our skin is the largest organ in our bodies and yet we often neglect to give it the attention it deserves. Installing water filters in your bathroom so that your shower head and taps are all pumping out perfectly filtered H2O is going to have a number of major benefits on your skin health and your overall health too.
With that in mind, here are the five crucial benefits of installing water filters in your bathroom.
1. Reducing chlorine
While there might only be trace amounts of chlorine found in tap water in the UK, it is still just enough to irritate your skin. Indeed, research has shown that regularly bathing or showering with calcareous water can eventually lead to skin conditions such as eczema, particularly in children. When it’s vapourized in hot water, chlorine can also irritate our eyes and even lead to breathing problems in older people. A water filter removes the potentially harmful chlorine after it’s already done its important job (killing bacteria).
2. No more itchy hair
Have you ever found yourself scratching your hair in the middle of the day and wondering why? It could be due to a build-up of dandruff. Filtered water has been proven to significantly reduce dandruff thanks to the removal of contaminants.
3. A cleaner bathroom
Limescale isn’t just a burden on our kettles and our kitchen sinks; it also leaves a rather literal mark on our bathroom walls. The white stains that you’ll find scattered around your showers are typically caused by limescale in the water and they are incredibly difficult to remove without resorting to some pretty extreme measures. Installing a filter in your shower will not only mean fewer stains but will make the bathroom that much easier to clean too.
4. Skin hydration
Our skin requires moisture and a great deal of that moisture comes from when we wash our hands, shower and bathe. Particularly in a shower, the hot water works to open your pores and let the water do its magic work. Harder water, however, leaves minuscule mineral deposits on your skin that can clog up your pores and leave your skin dry and flaky. A water filter will remove the vast majority of those deposits, allowing your skin to stay hydrated and soft. It could also help keep your skin looking younger by preventing free radicals from forming.
5. That glorious smell
Let’s be honest, bathrooms are known for a lot of things and lovely smells are not one of them. Not only is the bathroom where we go to “do our business” but the smell of old water that tends to build over time in most bathrooms and wet rooms can be really off-putting. And that’s before we even mention that “swimming pool” chlorine smell. Filtered shower water and bath water can erase these problems almost entirely and leave your bathroom smelling (mostly) of roses.
