Is copper the new glass?

We recently revealed the benefits of drinking from a glass bottle, but as water trends evolve further, it looks like there’s a new kid on the block. More and more people are making the switch from their super sustainable glass water bottles, and trying copper containers, or vessels instead. As we’ll discover however drinking from a copper water bottle is more than just a fashion statement.
Drinking from copper bottles or containers is no new thing. It has been practiced for many years, and has long been used as part of Ayurveda, the traditional Hindu system of medicine. You can unlock many benefits when drinking water from a copper container, read on to discover more.
Improved digestion
Using a copper water bottle effectively relies on more than just filling up your copper flask and drinking its contents. To feel the full effects of drinking from a copper container, water must be left to stew for several hours.
The water inside changes over time and the result is thought to unlock a number of positives for your digestive system. Stylist and writer Suruchi Avasthi discovered this when she drank out of a copper water bottle for two months:
“When you let water rest in copper for this amount of time, it allows the water to gain that small amount of ions from the copper to dissolve in it. There’s a more scientific way to look at and explain this – storing water in a copper bottle allows it to become alkaline. The storage in copper is what naturally ionizes water and causes the water to become natural alkaline water. Alkaline water has a higher pH than regular drinking water, which helps it reduce acid in the body – which some studies show is helpful for conditions like acid reflux.”
Boosted immunity
Copper is well known for its antibacterial qualities. It’s also anti-viral and anti-inflammatory, and these benefits can be enjoyed by all who drink from copper containers. Thanks to these wonder properties, immunity can be boosted, with external and internal wounds thought to be healed faster by the presence of copper in the body.
These qualities also make copper containers very easy to maintain. Due to their natural antibacterial properties, bottles made from copper self-sterilise, and don’t need as much cleaning as standard water bottles.
Better skin
Drinking from copper bottles supports good health and can work wonders for your appearance too. Copper’s high level of antioxidants is thought to eliminate toxins and free radicals from the body, a process that leads to many visible improvements. Healthier and brighter skin that’s more even and clear is widely reportedly amongst copper water bottle enthusiasts. Copper aids the production of new skin cells to slow ageing and the associated development of fine lines and wrinkles too.
More brain power
You can keep your body and mind fit, healthy, and young by drinking from a copper bottle. Copper is a known brain stimulant, which means drinking from a copper container can help your brain work faster and more efficiently.
