The benefits of drinking from a glass bottle

Staying hydrated by consuming a list of water-rich foods and drinks is vital. Enjoying water in all its forms unlocks numerous benefits for your mind, body and soul. But it’s not just what you drink but how you drink it that matters.
In a bid to undo the damage we’ve done to our planet, more and more people are utilising reusable water bottles to consume their favourite drinks. There is a plethora of reusable plastic bottles on the market and every purchase no doubt aids our eco-friendliness.
A new reusable bottle trend is growing in popularity however. The glass water bottle is a must-have and there are several plus-points to choosing glass over plastic as we’ll explain in this blog post.
A non-toxic drinking experience
Whilst most reusable plastic bottles are BPA-free, some are not, which can leave you consuming more than just the drink in your bottle. Several plastic bottles contain BPA or phthalates, both of which have been proven to disrupt naturally occurring hormones within the body.
These chemicals can easily make their way into the foods and drinks that are housed in the container, especially if the bottle is heated in the microwave or dishwasher.
With a glass bottle or container, there are no such worries. Glass is completely free of BPA and phthalates, meaning the drinks and foods consumed are protected from these toxic additions.
A better, healthier taste
When drinking from a glass bottle, the proof is in the taste. Just like drinking filtered water, water from a glass bottle is notably fresher and more delicious. Here Dr Michael Prager explains why:
“If you did a blind test of an Evian from a glass bottle or plastic bottle, the latter always tastes more bitter, which goes to show there’s some effect on the water you’re drinking. When you look at stats of the rise of ‘man boobs’ in the last 10 years rising by up to 15 per cent you have to wonder what effect these female acting hormones are having.”
A bottle that stands the test of time
The beverage container showdown doesn’t just focus on taste. If you, like most people, use your water bottle on a daily basis, your container of choice must be able to withstand a lot of wear and tear.
Glass is more hardwearing than plastic, and it’ll show as you continue to use your bottle over time. Whilst glass is no doubt more fragile than plastic, it can cope better with the demands of continued use and washing. A longer lasting bottle means you save money on containers in the long run.
A great help to the environment
The move from single-use to reusable plastic is of course a positive one, but a move from reusable plastic to glass is the best way to save our planet. From start to finish, glass is more environmentally friendly than plastic.
During production, glass generates far less emissions. According to the book A to Z of D-Toxing, the manufacture of a standard 16-ounce polyethylene terephthalate or PET bottle produces 100 times more toxic emissions than producing a glass bottle of the same size.
Glass bottles are more widely recycled too. Whilst people investing in glass bottles and containers tend to replace them less thanks to their durable nature.
