How can I get my kids to drink more water?

One of life’s most important building blocks, water is an essential component of all life on Earth. It allows our bodies to carry out a range of vital functions and helps us to stay awake, focused and healthy. Drinking water on a regular basis will help you look and feel great every day.
As every parent knows, getting kids to drink enough H2O can be a struggle. Whether they’re refusing to drink altogether, or angling for a sugar-packed fizzy drink, kids can be reluctant to keep their hydration levels topped up. In fact, as Laura Fuentes says “approximately 25% of all kids don’t drink any water on any given day” – a pretty scary statistic when you consider just how important H2O is.
If you’re finding it a challenge getting water into your little ones, here are a few tricks you can try to keep your kids hydrated, healthy, and happy.
Create flavoured waters
When you’re a kid, your world is full of sugary treats, salty snacks, and brightly coloured drinks. In contrast, water can appear a little underwhelming. Although adults know how refreshing, delicious and beneficial water can be, kids can be put off by appearances.
So to help get your kids drinking more water, why not add a few natural flavours to the mix? Raspberry and lime, pineapple and mint and citrus are all great flavours, and best of all, you don’t need to add any sugar or chemicals to the water.
Get a water filter
If you live in a hard water area, doing something as simple as investing in a water filter could encourage your kids to drink more H2O. If the water tastes and looks better, your children will be much more likely to drink and enjoy water throughout the day.
Give kids quirky water bottles
Giving kids their own water bottle or water cup can work wonders. See if you can find a bottle or cup emblazoned with their favourite characters and then use the characters or design of the cup or bottle to encourage them to drink water down to a certain level. Having a water cup or bottle of their own will also help to make your child feel more grown up and proud of their water drinking abilities.
Teach kids the wonders of water
If your kids still don’t think water’s all that great, try teaching them a few impressive facts about H2O. There are lots of experiments out there that you can do with kids to show them just how magical water is, so why not put aside a bit of time this weekend and help your kids to understand just how amazing water can be?
