How water can help with relaxation

We often associate water with things like cleaning, washing, or hydrating ourselves. But did you know that water can also be a great tool for relaxation? Everyone needs to unwind sometimes, so check out our tips for relaxing with water.
Swimming
As sporting activities go, swimming can be very relaxing. Take a trip to your local swimming baths and try a few lengths. If possible, visit at a time when the pool is less busy. Lots of people splashing about in the water can sometimes ruin the tranquillity! Although it’s not for everyone, some people really enjoy swimming in cold water, ourdoors.
Make sure you take your time and don’t feel you have to swim fast. If you’re a confident swimmer, you may find the process quite easy. If you’re less experienced, try practising leg kicks whilst holding onto the side in the shallow end. Work at your own pace and concentrate on enjoying the activity. If your pool has a jacuzzi or heated area, this would also be a great place to relax.
Hydration
We all know how important it is to keep hydrated. For many people, drinking water can also be a soothing experience. It quenches our thirst, helping us to refocus during a long day of work.
Importantly it’s also a moment to pause and take stock. Stopping your work long enough to have a drink of water can really help with maintaining a calm mindset. If you work in an office, refilling your glass is also an opportunity to briefly escape your desk. We’ve all experienced the social scene around the office water cooler! One of the reasons this is so popular with office workers is because of the moment’s respite it provides.
Sound
The sound of water can be extremely therapeutic. Spas will often use recordings of water as a background for their treatments. At the beach, we enjoy listening to the waves. Some people even choose to meditate to the sound of water. If you’re lucky enough to live close to a river or stream, you’ll be able to hear the real thing. If you’d prefer to listen from the comfort of your home, you could buy a CD instead. Alternatively, purchase an audio app for your smartphone or tablet. If you’re near a computer, you could also do an online search for audio recordings of water.
Bathing
Having a bath is one of the most popular ways to relax with water. It’s a chance to escape your daily responsibilities and enjoy a moment’s peace. There’s something very tranquil about it and the warmth of the water can also be very comforting.
There are lots of ways to enhance your bath time relaxation. You could add some nice smelling products or a fun bath fizzer to the water. If you’re feeling indulgent, you could even turn your bathroom into an at-home spa. Make sure you’ve got some clean pyjamas and fluffy slippers ready for when you get out. Then grab a glass of water and get an early night, to complete the relaxation experience.
