Turn your bathroom into an at-home spa

As the days get colder, there’s nothing quite as relaxing taking a nice warm bath. It’s also a great time to treat yourself with a new beauty or pampering routine. So why not take things up a notch and create your own at-home spa? Here are some ideas to get you started…
Dim the lights
For a relaxing atmosphere, turn off your bathroom lights and opt for something softer. Candles are a good option, as they emit a warm, glowing light. You could also go for scented candles to add some lovely aromas to the room. Another option is to use a tea light to warm some scented oil in an oil burner.
Remember to always place candles in a holder, on a flat stable surface. Never leave candles unattended and ensure naked flames are kept well away from anything flammable. If candles aren’t for you, how about investing in some specially made underwater lighting? These will create a beautiful light display from within your bathtub!
Add some music
Get into the spa mood by playing some relaxing music. Choose whatever musical genre you find most soothing. Classical or low-key acoustic are always good options You could also try music that has been especially made for relaxation purposes – ambient sounds are great for letting you escape the stresses of everyday life.
Sit back, close your eyes, and relax as you listen to the sounds. Again, remember to be safe and never use any electrical equipment near water. If you have a limited amount of time, use an alarm to give you a gentle reminder when it’s time to get going again. That way you won’t feel tempted to keep looking at the clock.
Choose your products
Nothing enhances the spa experience like treating yourself to some lovely products. Bubble baths, bath creams and oils are a great place to start. They smell lovely and often come in beautiful packaging, which helps to create a relaxing ambience.
You could also try some skin products, such as a body soufflé or a sugar scrub. Finish up by applying a body butter for a real sense of luxury. These products are available at a full range of prices, so you’re sure to find something to suit your budget. Have your fluffiest dressing gown and slippers standing by for the ultimate at-home comfort!
Treat yourself
As well as taking a nice long bath, why not spend some time pampering yourself? After all, what would a spa be without its treatments? Give yourself a mini facial, using your favourite cleanser, toner and moisturiser. Don’t forget to give yourself a facial massage too.
You could also try a body scrub or an at-home manicure and pedicure. Just shape your nails with a file and then apply your favourite colour polish. Finish up with a hand or foot cream to seal the deal. Go at your own pace and most importantly, relax and enjoy some much deserved ‘me time’.
