How soft water can help your beauty regime

Did you know that soft water has some great benefits for your beauty regime? The minerals in hard water may be good for the inside of your body but they wreak havoc on the external appearance that you work so hard on maintaining. Some people are lucky enough to live in a location which has naturally soft water but most others have to deal with hard water.
So what are the benefits of soft water for your hair, face and body?
Hair
The softer the water, the softer its impact on your hair! Hard water contains many minerals and chemicals which, when used with shampoos and conditioners, can cause many damaging affects to your hair such as dryness and brittleness. This is due to the soapy shampoos and conditioners binding to the minerals in the harder water. Filtering your water or sourcing softer water relieves this and actually conditions your hair naturally, leaving it feeling silky, smooth and soft. It also prevents a flaky scalp or a build-up of soap scum on your head.
Face and body
Bathing and showering in soft water is quite a luxury! This cleanses the skin in a very efficient way and leaves it feeling soft. If you bathe with hard water, the chances are your bubble bath or shower gel will wash away very quickly, as hard water soaks up these products. This doesn’t happen when using soft water – the result is that your products will go a lot further as the lather is much more intense with just a small amount of soapy liquid.
With regards to skin, the benefits of soft water are wonderful. Where hard water will leave you feeling itchy and tight, soft water actually tackles dryness of the skin. If you suffer from a skin condition such as eczema you will notice a profound difference if you filter your water. You will notice a particularly soothing experience as opposed to the abrasive nature of hard water. Soft water is also useful for treating acne and oily skin because it takes away the layer of soapy skin which can retain bacteria. This leaves the skin looking fresh after a deep cleanse.
Many people mention a slippery feeling when using soft water; this is actually the water aiding the soap in cleansing your skin. Often, people get so accustomed to using hard water that it feels strange at first to switch to soft water; but after some time you will notice the beautiful benefits.
You may or may not have soft water supplied to your home depending on where you live in the UK. If you do live in a location known for hard water like much of the eastern half of the UK, then you can buy filters and water softeners to treat your water, not only to enhance your beauty regime but also to benefit from considerable savings in energy consumption for water heating and washing in your home.
