Salt

Salt is used by the water softener to periodically cleanse it (called regeneration). We are often asked how much salt a softener should use. The answer of course depends on how much water you (and your family) use and how much hardness is in your water.

Normally softeners will use around 4 - 6 kilogram's of salt per person per month in other words a single block of salt per person per month or a 25kg bag of tablet salt for a family of 4 per month. Please remember that this is only an approximate guide.

BLOCK SALT is convenient and used by most modern non electric water softeners such as Kinetico 2020, Twintec, Mini Max, Mega Twin and Crown

TABLET SALT (small bricks/tablets) is used by the majority of electrically driven softeners (but not all, for example the Aquadial Prismertec which uses the Granular Type)

GRANULAR SALT (tiny grains) is used by a few softeners it is a little messier than tablet salt when filling your softener. It is also used in some swimming pools!
